Understanding local interest

A great turnout for our very first meeting! On Monday 30th January, a group of around 30 people met at the Craven Council offices in Skipton to learn more about the concept of a Library of Things (LOT), gauge whether it was something that would be of interest in the local area and whether anybody would like to be involved in the setting up of the endeavour.

Lee Ingham, Director of Buy Nowt LS6, generously spoke to us of his experience setting up their Library of Things in north Leeds. It was really useful to hear some of their considerations at the early stages of Buy Nowt LS6, the structure of the organisation, how they’d reached their decision to run the LOT on a pay-as-you-feel (PAYF) basic, challenges faced and learnings made along the way.

Lee Ingham from Buy Nowt LS6 talking to Share Skipton about setting up a Library of Things

An insightful talk with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, Lee shared that one of the most popular items in their inventory was disco balls!

We asked the attendees to complete a simple questionnaire to give us an idea of what sorts of items they’d like to borrow or donate, and whether they’d be interested in supporting in the running of the LOT.

It was fantastic to confirm local enthusiasm for the project!
