Share Skipton committee formed

On February 20th, the people who’d shown an interest in being involved in the set up and running a Library of Things met to begin discussions about the project would require and to begin to outline some of the guiding principles. It was clear there was a lot of work ahead of us but the experience and enthusiasm around the table was fantastic!

Everyone had the opportunity to introduce themselves, say a little about their background and their interest in supporting a Library of Things. We then discussed our values and ideas for the organisation and all agreed that our values would include a focus on honesty, integrity and transparency, and that community and well-being are important as well as environmental ambitions.

We took care of some of the business elements such as beginning to write our constitution then moved onto the important decision of what to call ourselves, and so Share Skipton was born!

Following discussion, we agreed that the purposes of Share Skipton are:

  1. To establish and run a library of things, which will lend useful items to our local community at an affordable cost.

  2. To establish and run a repair café, which will support our local community to repair and mend their belongings.

  3. To encourage and enable our local community to work together to share resources, reduce waste, repair and reuse more, and promote a circular economy.

We also agreed roles for the committee and are pleased to introduce ourselves to you:

From left to right, Lorna, Joanna (Vice Chair), Clare, Melanie, Fiona (Secretary) and Angela (Chair).

The committee operate on a voluntary basis and will meet on a monthly basis. We look forward to sharing more updates as we make progress!
